"Vernatun" public-political club issues statement on attack on Armenian newspaper's editorial office

“Vernatun” public-political club has issued a statement on the attack on the editorial office of Zhoghovurd Armenian daily newspaper, reports the press service of the public-political club. “On the night of December 19, anonymous people broke into the editorial office of Zhoghovurd newspaper and, according to the accounts of employees, disorganized everything and invaded the office of the editor, and they were most likely trying to find something. No computer or other object was stolen, and this reminds one that this is not an ordinary attempt of theft. We assess this as an attempt to exert brutal pressure on a media outlet through a crime and send a unique “message” to other media outlets. Unfortunately, this is not the only case of unlawful repression. There have been similar repressions against the mass media over the past year and a half. “Vernatun” public-political club strictly condemns the subsequent assault against a media outlet and demands that the authorities take real, not formal steps to reveal the crime and bring the culprit(s) to justice; otherwise, the incumbent authorities will be fully responsible for all this,” the statement reads.
